Can anyone tell me about "Bangchang?" I read about this in a local newspaper here in the United States. An American tourist who had just arrived from a vacation in Bhutan mentioned it without any details. The person said it was a really enjoyable drink.

I don't know if BANG really meas opium or not.. it definitely is a fine local wine... made of wheat, buckwheat, and maize... it is strong.. but there's another locally brewed wine called.. Ara.. this definitely is stronger...

That sounds like the Mekong that I drank in Thailand when I lived there. Mekong is a 35 percent (70 proof) rice whiskey. It has a pleasing taste and mild flavor that goes excellent with ice and soda water.
